Literature Text

I sought you out in dreams and in the air
From spreading dusk to deepest velvet night
Beseeching fortune's gift beyond compare
The stars within your mane my guiding light
The songs that swelled within my aching breast
Brought fire and hope to every night I flew
Each note, each verse a truth! I soon confessed
Before your eyes, that what I sought was you
The pain that crossed your brow was sharp and bright
How had I failed? What secret had I missed?
And then I knew: you feared to see the night
When I, poor mortal mare, felt Death's sweet kiss

Oh! Hold me still, e'en knowing we must part
Within that hidden garden of your heart

This was written while in character as my pony avatar, Evening Song, as she courted Princess Luna. The result was... less than hoped for, though much, much more than feared. The courtship is still ongoing as of this writing.

Can the heart of a princess be won by a pegasus who sings? Time will tell.
